Good agriculture begins with a fertile soil. Its the surest means of guaranteeing sustainable production. However, our soils are getting rapidly depleted in part due to intensive production and in part due to failure to return to the soil what it has given us in form of food, energy and income. It is imperative to continuously add organic matter to the soil. Organic agriculture presents the best hope for rebuilding soil fertility, increasing agricultural production and mitigating the effects of climate change which have become prevalent.
